J.K. Baseball Sonnet

His Dad and Uncles, fans of Yastrzemski,
John from Duxbury, would play for Podbelski.
With hopes of a Junior year for the ages,
Effort was spent in the weight room and cages.

 

Wheaton College arrived for Spring Training,
But playing time for Keating was waning.
A meaningful meeting with the Head Coach,
Turned into two doubles and new approach.

 

The Regionals brought Cape fog and tough teams,
And an end to the Lyons’ season’s dreams.
A magical MacDougall wood bat in hand,
Prolific hitting, Keating traveled the land.

 

From the Vineyard to Texas, hits recorded,
Captain, number thirteen was awarded.
